Welcome

The Superintendent of Schools shall strive to achieve District goals for students by providing educational direction and supervision to the professional staff and supervision to the non-teaching staff and by acting as a proper model for staff and students both in the school and outside the District.

The Superintendent of Schools is the chief executive and administrative officer of the Board. The Superintendent reports directly to the Board, has all powers and duties imposed upon the office by statute, and has all executive and administrative powers and duties in connection with the overall operation of the school which are not required by statute to be exercised directly by the Board or some other officer. The Superintendent exercises leadership through school administrators who comprise the Leadership Team.

A Message from the Superintendent

Welcome Back!

As we anticipate the start of the 2018-19 school year, you will see new staff and student faces, new ideas, and new courses as we are always moving forward and Empowering All Students For Success.  STEM (Strategies that Engage the Minds), PBL (Project Based Learning), and the 4 C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity) are concepts that will still be at the core of what we want to produce: lifelong learners who are prepared for life outside of high school.

While our staff is busy preparing for the new school year, the high school is also getting ready to undergo a major renovation and addition project. Over the next 3 years, the high school will be transformed into a 21st century learning center with a new media center, blended learning classrooms, and new furniture in all rooms. Although the physical space may be changing, our focus will continue to be on the development of the whole child – from academics to social and emotional learning. In case you were wondering, the renovation and addition is being done without requesting additional funds from taxpayers. The renovation and addition funds were secured from the state and can only be used for capital (building) purposes, not operating expenses (salaries, etc.). Overall, the project is funded with 80% state and 20% local funds.

To help our families prepare for the new school year, the Back-to-School newsletter will give you all the essential information you need for a smooth start.  Don’t forget to check the website for additional information and links to online services, www.cwschools.org.  We look forward to partnering with you to ensure this is a successful, productive, monumental year for all our students. Again, welcome back, and let’s make it a great year!

Sincerely,

James Sotlar, Superintendent
